If you love to read but all of a sudden everything is blurry and you cannot see any of the letters, this could be due to many things. The most important thing and the first thing you should do is to see your eye doctor. They can help you understand what is going on and help you get the right treatment. Below are two things the doctor may tell you is the problem.
Not being able to read small print, as well as having cloudy vision, such as when looking through a fogged up window, could be due to cataracts. You may have had cataracts for some time, but they are just now rearing their ugly head. In the beginning stages, a stronger pair of glasses, as well as reading under a brighter light, can help you with this problem. Some other symptoms you may notice include:
In many cases, cataracts are due to old age, but there are also other causes of this problem.
Your eye doctor may suggest category surgery to treat this problem once the symptoms become worse. This may sound scary, but according to AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care), 99 percent of people would recommend this surgery to their friends and family if they suffer from the same problem.
If the only symptom you have is blurry vision while reading, you likely have presbyopia instead. You may start developing eye strain and headaches if you do not get this problem taken care of. Presbyopia may be due to your age. When you are young, the lens in your eye is flexible and soft, which allows the muscles to reshape the lens while focusing on close objects.
As you become older, your eyes cannot focus directly onto something because your retina starts to harden. It could also be weakened muscle fibers around your eye making it harder for you to focus your eyes on objects close up. Fortunately, instead of surgery, the doctor can treat this condition by prescribing eyeglasses. There are different types you can choose from.
Types of Eyewear
The doctor may prescribe glasses with bifocal lenses. These lenses have one prescription on the main part of the lenses that allows you to see normally when looking forward, but has a different prescription on the lower part of the lenses that is much stronger when you look down. The eyeglasses look completely normal, as there is no visible line between the two lenses.
If you see normally otherwise, the eye doctor may prescribe reading glasses instead. You can purchase reading glasses at many retail stores. You can also get higher quality reading glasses from your eye doctor. This is your best choice, as they can tell you the exact strength you need.
As you become older, your retina may harden even more. Because of this, your eye doctor will have to change your prescription periodically. For this reason, make sure you visit them on a regularly basis.

If your vision isn't as good as it used to be, you need to see an optometrist. I developed an uncontrollable twitch in both eyes. The problem became so bad that it interfered with my sleep at night. I became cranky, irritable and extremely self-conscience about my problem. At times, I couldn't see anything, even if it was close to my face. But after speaking to my regular doctor about my twitchy eyes, they referred me to an optometrist for an eye exam. The optometrist diagnosed me with poor nerve function. If I didn't do something about it, I'd lose my vision. My eye doctor prescribed eyeglasses to help me see better until I underwent surgery to repair the damaged nerves in my eyes. Now, I see just fine. If you want to know more about protecting your vision, keep reading my blog.
